Welcome to the website of the Union of European Federalists of Macedonia (UEFM).
The Union of European Federalists (UEF) is a pan-European, non-governmental political organization dedicated to the promotion of European political unity. It was founded shortly after World War II, in the belief that only by uniting into a European Federation could the states of Europe overcome the divisions of the past and ensure a future of peace and economic prosperity. Throughout the past 70 years UEF has been a leading voice in the promotion of European unity and an early campaigner for key milestones in the development of the European Communities and then the European Union.
Europe is passing through a period of turbulence and uncertainty and the same fate is shared by Macedonia as well. The accession process of the country to the EU is additionally complicated and conditioned by irrational demands. Individual accession towards the Union, derived by the preparedness of every applicant – country is what we expect. However, that did not coincide with the interest of the member – countries. Consequently on that, new dialogue has been opened, without certainty of when it is going to end. That action condemned Macedonia towards prolongation of the transition process, a process accompanied with long financial crisis, which has led to economic stagnation, unemployment and political fragmentation. It has also exposed not only the flaws in the design of the structure of the public institutions, but also their lack of dedication towards integration to the Union. As a result, the European Union has lost the trust of many citizens. The crisis in the regions bordering the European Union, from Ukraine to the Middle East, is putting increasing pressure on progressing European integration in the foreign, security and defense field.
The process of building a genuine European perspective in the Balkans can start from today with incentivizing of the accession process of the Union. It is the responsibility of our decision makers to take all the necessary steps to solve the problems, put our affairs in order and rebuild confidence.
Let us build the bridges of cooperation between the European Nations together!
